I’m here to help my Company Culture Excel
Culture: How People Behave When No One’s Watching
Something’s off.
Performance is slipping but the strategy looks sound.
You’ve hit your hiring targets. The employer brand is strong.
You’ve launched slick company values and even printed them on the walls.
But none of it’s sticking.
Because culture isn’t what you say it’s what people do when no one’s watching.
And right now, what they’re doing tells a very different story.
As Drucker said: “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.”

What We Often See
In many organisations, values start out well, leaders model them, systems support them.
Then something shifts. Culture gets deprioritised.
It’s handed off as a side project. Leaders stop living it.
And slowly, the cracks start to show.
Take a moment.
Think back.
- What was the turning point?
Hypergrowth that outpaced your systems? - A new CEO or senior leader with a control-first, win-at-all-costs style?
- A merger, major restructuring, or a poorly handled ethical dilemma?
- Remote work, hybrid working, then the return to office policy fractured connection?
- Layoffs executed with little compassion, low morale, or a pivot in leadership tone to match the economic pressure?
Or maybe culture just wasn’t a priority. Until now. But now, things feel urgent. Because they are.
When Culture Starts to Rot
This is what we see when fear replaces trust and psychological safety:
- Managers lie to their teams to appease senior leaders and lose trust when the truth comes out.
- Managers lie to their teams to appease senior leaders and lose trust when the truth comes out.
- Mistakes and problems are hidden, blame is passed, and perfection becomes the only safe option.
- Leaders posture as heroes who have all the answers instead of showing vulnerability or their human side.
- Unethical behaviour is tolerated if it drives profit and new business.
- HR turns a blind eye to bullying, harassment and discrimination. Policies are applied unevenly.
- Microaggressions are dismissed as “banter” and victims labelled troublemakers.
- Burnout becomes a badge of honour. Mental health issues rise. Sick leave skyrockets.
- New hires realise they were sold a story and want out (before probation is over!).
- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) becomes performative, untethered from power or accountability.
- Leadership stays white and male. No urgency to change.
- Gossip, favouritism, information hoarding and cliques flourish with infrequent communication, such as company meetings or 1:1s.
And the Impact
- You lose your best people, the diverse talent, trusted leaders, top performers. Gone.
- Productivity tanks. People are resisting, disengaged and demotivated. Change stalls.
- Innovation dries up. No one’s taking risks or experimenting with new ideas.
- Customers churn. Quality slips.
- Your reputation erodes. Legal risks rise.
- Smart people are hired, paid but are too stressed to perform. Diverse views rarely included. A poor return on investment.
The mission is buried under politics, silence, and fear.

We’re practitioners of Amy Edmondson’s Fearless Organisation framework and tools, grounded in 30+ years of Harvard research.
And we agree:
“Psychological safety is the soil, not the seed.”
Without it, your culture stays superficial. Your results stay mediocre.
Why Leaders Can’t See It
The truth?
Leaders rarely hear what employees really experience and think.
Power dynamics and distance from the “front line” distort the feedback.
Exit interviews rarely happen, and when they do, they sugar-coat the issues.
And senior teams become out of touch.
